WebDwarfs are pretty good about not letting prisoners go, and while they're being dragged to the chains, prisoners can't do anything. As for the chains themselves, thieves can break out of their constraints. I can't recall if the prisoner can use ranged attacks or not, but I'd assume they could.

The enemy would fall through the second layer and then land in the pit. These two layers have a 1x1 hole where the enemies are supposed to fall through. I have specified each of the 1x1 hole to be a channel.
